Campanero Panama Extra Anjeo

£45.00

Campanero Panama Extra Anjeo is a 12 year old rum from Panama bottled by the Danish company 1423.

Tasting notes: the first hit is intense and full of chocolate which is softened by a lovely creaminess at the end there are light vegetal notes, already the complexity of this rum is driving me wild with excitement the colour is bright and pale gold which is deceptive for the 12 year age the palate carrys on with a lot of dusty chocolate but now we are tasting the spice from the ethanol at 54% ABV the rum just keeps giving, bitter orange starts to lift along with some coffee and oak from the cask, this finish is long and dry, it is a joy to have the opportunity to taste a rum of this quality and complexity.

Recommended serve: Straight up with ice if you like it is easily that good, it makes an incredible Old Fashioned where I lifted the chocolate even further with some chocolate bitters.

Campanero translates from Spanish as companion and is a series for rums from 1423 where they have focused their attention on complexity and a long finish, other rums in the series are from Trinidad and Jamaica. Panamanian rums have a distinctive character the are developed from a unique climate called the Dry Arch which provides an unequalled terroir. A stable temperature pattern allows the rum producers to control the ageing process with much greater detail than in parts of the Caribbean. Panama rums in general have a lot of berry fruit flavours and the ageing process in ex-bourbon cask with this rum has added a bucket full of chocolate and as it is column distilled to a low ABV it has retained a lot of flavour as well as stripping out some of the more fruity notes you could pick up from pot still production.
