Steel River Gin

£39.00

Steel River Gin have forged their way into become on of the most original gins in on the market approaching the category in a flamboyant way that at first shocked people with the garish strong colours and unique flavour profiles, but once they tasted the gin and realised that it was not all style over content Steel River became winners.

Tasting notes for Steel River Stainsby Girl Gin: the colour is really out there, a strong purple to blue colour that does not make you think gin, the colour is achieved by adding magic Butterfly Pea flower after distillation, the nose is fresh with watermelon and and citrus but becomes richer with dried fruit and fig, there is also a citrusy juniper to remind you you are drinking gin. The flavour notes are definitely watermelon and pink grapefruit, and the juniper and coriander to linger on the palate

Over all this is a great gin and an innovation that a lot of companies are now trying to mimic but the original has the upper-hand if you are looking for a gin with a new character then I would recommend this every-time.

Serving suggestions: A simple Fever Tree and pink grapefruit is wonderful but wit the serve Stainsby Girls little secret is unleashed as the tonic hits the gin it magically turns from blue to pink adding to the theatre of the serve you could add a little fresh ginger root to bring out a bit of spice and also gives the gin a longer finish.

Steel River is the invention of Jay Byers who decided he was going to make a gin and immersed himself into the project, with some impressive marketing skills he had people turning their heads and soon he was on his way to success in the drinks industry. The growth in the market of small batch gin reminds me of the punk revolution of the late 70’s its an exciting times for the category where mavericks like Jay can create a whole new definition of the word gin.
